Ready to Learn Workshops

WNED offers Ready to Learn workshops that provide current information about the local and national initiatives of PBS KIDS Raising Readers. Each two hour workshop focuses on ways parents and teachers can use media resources based on scientific research from the reading experts and producers of the PBS children's shows, to help reinforce reading readiness skills in their homes and classrooms.

Clips of PBS children's shows such as Sesame Street, Between the Lions, Word World, and Super Why are highlighted in the workshops. Hands-on activities are provided to demonstrate how reading readiness skills are integrated into the shows and can be tied in to everyday activities parents do with their kids.

A workshop on how parents can use PBS children's television shows and web based resources available through WNED is also offered as one of a series of family literacy classes for parents through EPIC (Every Person Influences Children), called Ready, Set, Read. For more information about Ready, Set, Read training call EPIC at 332-4100.

For more information about the Ready to Learn workshops for parents and educators contact John Craig @ 845-7000 ext. 311 or email: jcraig@wned.org .
